And our special thanks...

... to all those who worked on and supported the pilot clip: pianist Miguel Henriques, director Rui Garção, technical producer Octávio Marques and his Senso TV team, the Fernando Rosado Pianos company, the Museum of Portuguese Music/Casa Verdades de Faria (a special mention to its director, Assunção Júdice, and Conceição Correia), Cascais' Municipality e the Numérica record company.

What about the composers?

The first was António Fragoso, who wrote the "Petite Suite" of which pianist Miguel Henriques performed the beautiful Prelude, in "Musicalia"'s pilot clip. Many others will have their works recorded and filmed in the series: King Dinis I, Manuel Rodrigues Coelho, Estêvão de Brito, Pedro de Araújo, Diogo Dias Melgaz, Francisco António de Almeida, Carlos Seixas, António Teixeira, João de Sousa Carvalho, João Domingos Bomtempo, Marcos Portugal, Almeida Mota, Viana da Mota, Francisco de Lacerda, Luís de Freitas Branco, Cláudio Carneiro, Jorge Croner de Vasconcelos, Fernando Lopes-Graça, Armando José Fernandes, Joly Braga Santos, Jorge Peixinho, Constança Capdeville. And many others. Among the contemporary ones, several have already agreed in having their works presented in this series:

António Pinho Vargas
António Victorino d’Almeida
Carlos Marecos
Clotilde Rosa
Eurico Carrapatoso
João Madureira
João Pedro Oliveira
João Rafael
José Luís Ferreira
Luís Cardoso

... and the list will keep on expanding. So you see, there's a lot of work ahead!

Some confirmed partnerships and supports

"Musicalia" is a long-term project that is to be produced over the next few years. Centuries of Portuguese music, sinthesized in a 5-minute format, have plenty to chose from. Just like the many performers who are taking part, either Portuguese or living in Portugal, who are to be joined by several internationally prestiged musicians. They all have the drive to share Portuguese repertoires.
Almost everything is still to be done in order to build this skyscraper (of which only the basement floor - the pilot clip- is ready) but some crucial partnerships and supports have already been assured: public classical music radio RTP-Antena 2, national media partner and technical production partner; Rádio Europa Lisboa, local media partner and executive production partner; CCB - Centro Cultural de Belém, executive production partner; Belo de Morais & Associados, communication and promotion partner.
Several other entities who will be supporting "Musicalia" will be mentioned when that support is formalized.

Musicalia on Newbox

Musicalia's pilot clip is now available on the Newbox web tv platform, where it can be watched on its real format (16 x 9), unlike on You Tube and on Facebook, where the image is compacted and distorted. Watch on http://www.newbox.tv/inicio?task=viewvideo&video_id=25 .

Shooting Musicalia's pilot clip

The shooting took place on June the 9th, at the lovely Museum of Portuguese Music - Casa Verdades de Faria, located in Estoril, Cascais, in the outskirts of Lisbon. We used a very small technical team, lead by Octávio Marques (Senso), with Rui Garção (RGG) as director.

The pilot clip

On June 2009, Musicalia's pilot clip was shot in Estoril (Cascais), at the Museum of Portuguese Music - Casa Verdades de Faria. It features the beautiful nostalgic Prelude from the "Petite Suite" written by young composer António Fragoso (1897-1918) - a piece that pianist Miguel Henriques had recorded among most of the composer's solo piano music on a CD that was first released by the Numérica label in 1994 and again in 2007.

The first steps

Beautiful, exciting, breathtaking, audacious music, written by inspired and skilled composers. Today, like in the Middle Ages or in any other time, Portuguese composers do not cease to surprise us with their varied styles and great artistry - and their music is praised anywhere in the world it is performed. This TV series, whose production is now starting off, will feature works of all times, from solo and chamber music to orchestral miniatures, played by great performers. The shooting locations will be Portugal's magnificent architectural and natural patrimonial sites.

By December 2009, we should have the first part of this hopefully longlasting series ready for broadcast. We'll gradually post news about what, when and where you can watch. You will not want to miss any single bit!
